Debra Hill, President, Board of Directors

Housing Options Board of Directors President Debra A. Hill has been involved with Housing Options for a number of years, holding a variety of positions. She is well known in the educational community for her expertise in administration, curriculum development and community relations. Dr. Hill has served on several professional education international boards. Before her retirement in 2007, she held senior level positions in Evanston/ Skokie School District 65. Most recently, she was Superintendent for West Northfield School District 31, Northbrook, Illinois. In addition to her work with Housing Options, Dr. Hill serves as an independent consultant on educational strategies, is an adjunct professor at National Louis University, is an associate professor at Argosy University of Chicago, and serves as a consultant for the educational executive search firm of Bickert, Webb, Plath and Associates.

Dr. Hill holds a PhD in Curriculum/Human Resources from Loyola University, Chicago, a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Northwestern University, Evanston, and a Bachelors of Science from Northwestern University, Evanston.

Debbie A. Bretag, Executive Director

Debbie Bretag was appointed as the executive director of Housing Options in November of 2009. Prior to coming to Housing Options Ms. Bretag served as the executive director of the Illinois Center for Violence Prevention for twelve years where she honed an expertise in organizational development, long-term systems change, and policy advocacy. Ms. Bretag has extensive experience in serving individuals challenged with mental health issues and trauma. She served as the Clinical Director of Alternatives, Inc. in the Edgewater/Uptown communities of Chicago and was the clinical social worker serving youth and families in a psychiatric setting prior to that.

Ms. Bretag holds a Masters Degree in Social Work from Jane Addams School of Social Work at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has been appointed to numerous commissions and task forces over the course of her career including: Illinois Children’s Mental Health Partnership, Attorney General’s Date Rape Task Force, Governor’s Hate Crime Commission, and the Workplace Violence Commission.
