Housing Options for the Mentally Ill in Evanston is a nonprofit organization that provides affordable supportive housing and mental health support to adults recovering from chronic mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and major depression. We encourage independent living and offer a safe and dignified alternative to homelessness and unnecessary institutionalization.

Housing and Support

To give our residents the greatest opportunity for independence and recovery, Housing Options provides each individual with affordable, independent housing in small well maintained buildings and individual apartments scattered throughout eight of Evanston’s nine wards. Each apartment offers all that is necessary to create a home, and gives residents a safe, secure space in which to focus on successful living and recovery. Residents also receive access to a host of individual and group support services that help them manage their illnesses and develop the independent living skills they need not just to survive, but to thrive. Research shows that this combination of housing and support services offers residents the best opportunity for recovery and successful integration into the community.
